Disability Sport
There has been some great work within the community across our disability sessions. These sessions are designed to provide individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate in sports, fostering a sense of belonging, enhancing physical and mental well-being, and celebrating the unique strengths of every participant. It allows them to gain confidence and build friendships, by breaking down societal barriers and providing them with a platform where everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy and benefit from the beautiful game. We offer tailored sessions, which ensures every participant receives the right level of support and challenge to thrive.
Over the week Sky Blues in the Community deliver four sessions across the city covering all ages from four to adults, with sessions varying from pan disability to specific down syndrome sessions. These sessions are adapted to meet the needs of children and adults with physical and learning disabilities. They focus on skill development, teamwork, and most importantly, fun.
Our dedicated coaches and volunteers play a pivotal role in the success of these programmes. Trained in disability awareness and inclusive coaching techniques, they ensure that each session is safe, enjoyable, and enriching for all involved.
We like to think we have something accessible for everyone.
The benefit of our disability offer is adults and children can enjoy sport and develop their skills and confidence in a fun and relaxed environment. We at Sky Blues in the Community are fully committed to promoting a safe and enjoyable environment for all our participants across our disability programmes.
Our disability programmes, allows children who often get over- looked in the competitive sporting community a feeling of belonging. Not only do we offer opportunity to children across the city, but also respite to parents of SEND children who provide 24-hour support to their loved ones. Parents feel at ease when dropping their children off at a session – knowing that they are in professional, compassionate, and trustworthy hands.
We also run an adult inclusion football league in partnership with the Birmingham FA, which runs once a month on the last Sunday. At our first league meeting, we had twenty-three participants across three teams participate in a friendly 6v6 style tournament, with some good competition and great skills on show.
