Sky Blues in the Community (SBitC) visited local residents in Coventry and highlighted the benefits of smart meters.
SBitC is one of around 70 Football Club charities using the power of football to spread the message about smart meters and help communities take control of their energy use.
A smart meter can help put you in control by keeping score of what you’re spending on energy. SBitC met with Cllr Pat Seaman, cabinet member for children and young people, and discussed how to join the energy revolution.
Cllr Pat Seaman commented: “I spoke with Sky Blues in the Community about the benefits of how a smart switch can change the game.”
“I recognised I’m stuck in my ways and never thought to use a smart meter. It’s interesting to see the benefits and understand how we use energy as a family, monitor our use, switching high energy usage to off peak times and knowing what our energy bill will be as opposed to just an estimate.”
Pat continued to say: “I want to raise awareness and help promote these to residents.”
Smart meters come with portable screens known as in-home displays. These in-home displays show you how much energy you’re using in near-real time. This helps you make decisions that could help reduce your energy usage, which could also reduce your monthly energy bill!
SBitC and Pat Seaman were in the Henley Ward area of Coventry last month speaking with local residents at the Henley Green Community Centre Grub Hub about this energy saving initiative.
David Busst, SBitC Head of Community commented: “We’ve been working closely with the Henley Green Grub Hub for many years, and on Wednesdays we enjoy delivering food parcels to the local community through the social supermarket. Whilst we were out delivering and having our weekly catch-ups, we spoke to families and introduced them to the benefits of smart meters”
Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and we’ll always aim to support struggling families and help improve their lives.
