Ben Wilson has been awarded a special community prize by the Professional Footballers’ Association and Sky Blues in the Community.
The PFA Player in the Community Award celebrates the incredible impact of players “off the field” in EFL communities during 2024, with one players from each Club being given the special award.
Coventry City goalkeeper Wilson has been recognised for his community contribution and wad presented with the ‘Player in the Community’ award last month by Head of Sky Blues in the Community David Busst.
Since 2019 when Ben Wilson joined Coventry City, it was clear from the start that he wanted to do as much off the pitch as he did on it. His outgoing nature and fan likeability endears him to everyone he meets. There is a serious side to him that not many people see, and a humility that’s bought out when doing community visits, particularly with the younger generation.
Ben has been nominated as a Player Ambassador for Sky Blues in the Community for the last few years, which shows his outgoing personality and interaction with our community programmes across Coventry & Warwickshire, through community cohesion, health, education and sport. Last summer Ben also attended one of our disability sessions, covering young people with SEN/behavioural needs as part of Sky Blues in the Community’s inclusion programme.
Ben commented: “I am honoured to have been chosen as Coventry City’s Community Player of the Season; I feel very grateful to have been considered as it means a lot to me that I am able to give back to the community. Putting smiles on the faces of hundreds of people I have managed to spend time with in our local community over the last year, of different ages and backgrounds, is an amazing feeling.
“One of the best bits about these community appearances is that it allows me to help bring people together and inspire them to strive for success in their everyday life. I thank you all for not only accepting me, but allowing me to be myself and smile along with you as we take part in these activities together.”
“A lot of this is alongside Sky Blues in the Community too, and I have seen at first hand the impact their projects have on people. I really appreciate being recognised in this way.”
